MARCH TREASURES - Martyn Brewster, Peter Joyce, John Wells, Bernard Dunstan, Prunella Clough, Terry Frost, Graham Sutherland .......

Another venture into sheer indulgence -  I've picked all my favourites from the extensive gallery collection!

Where to start?  What better way than 6 of the largest pieces that I currently have hung - each one a magnificent statement representing the very best of the artists' work. Please bear in mind that small images do nothing to convey the impact and the presence that these large pieces emit in real life and you are very welcome to see them hung in a natural home environment to gain a true measure of their potency.

Firstly, here we have Coastal Light 18 - Sunset, arguably the best piece ever from Martyn Brewster.  This oil on canvas measures 60 x 60 ins. and just draws you in. Mesmerising.

An earlier painting from Martyn entiltled Lakeside 1989. I can't begin to imagine how many tubes of paint were gobbled up to create the thick impasto for this stunning oil on canvas measuring 72 x 36 ins. A masterclass in reflected light.

This splendid work - East of Tynham by Peter Joyce was one of the last of Peter's large Purbeck paintings prior to his decampment to the wild marshes of The Vendée in France. Acrylic on canvas 52 x 42 ins.

A real find this one. Rain God 1961 by Sven Berlin is a 'one-off' alloy casting set in a substantial frame measuring 51 x 75 x 6 ins. and it weighs 'a ton'. If you've got a wall big enough I think you'll find it hard to resist.

This delightful painting 'Birdsong' by Teresa Lawton exudes both a power and a delicacy that somehow takes it out of this world. Beautiful. Oil on canvas 60 x 48 ins.

'Out of Bounds', another by Teresa Lawton. Oil on canvas 48 x 36 ins. I can't explain what it is about this painting that makes it my favourite of all despite the very powerful competition above. Come and have a look to see for yourself.

From one extreme to the other - this charming little oil painting by Richard Price - 'Sunlit Figure' measures just 10 x 8 ins. and set in it's complementary frame would look good just about anywhere.

A superb New Forest scene 'Dawn' from landscape painter Claire Wiltsher.  Claire now lives in the Forest and captures the moods of the seasons and weather in her very own way. Oil on canvas 600 x 600 mm.

Another artist rising to the fore with his very own style is Andrew Bird and already one of the gallery's best selling artists. This piece called 'Working the Land' measuring 275 x 610 mm. plus large contemporary frame is a delight.

This is 'Watchcroft' by Adam Milford. Oil on board 650 x 500 mm. A young man increasingly enjoying well deserved exposure and success. One to watch - no pun intended.

This dramatic scene 'Over a dark Sea' from Catherine Barnes depicting the Normandy beaches. Catherine divides her time between here and the Sussex coast where she lives. A great painting. Oil on canvas 76 x 71 cms.

I'll let this one speak entirely for itself. 'Guardian of Sleeping Memories' by
Padraig Macmiadhachain. Oil on linen canvas. 8 x 10 ins. Marmite.
